I grew up with a father who is very bigoted and spewed hate. As an adult with my own mind, I chose not hate and break the cycle.

I do feel a little bad for him, though, because his father believes the Holocaust doesn't exist. Growing up with that, he didn't really have a chance to be very Jewish-friendly. Although I agree that he should have embraced his demons and changed by now.

But honestly? All good directors are completely messed up assholes. This just solidifies his place in the pantheon of brilliant directors.

Sounds like a typical Republican to me.

Russell Crowe was not an ass to me. He stuck around after a show once very late and signed autographs for everyone who wanted them, was very kind, and even posed for photos. And he looks a lot nicer in person, too.

I think the thing that turned this so bad for Mel is the family-oriented, Christian image he's been cultivating for so long.

It reminds everyone of the difference between image and reality.
